Her campus list of people grows. Razina from band. Austin from band. Mohammed from band. She learns people in her classes and even manages to send a quick wave to a few. She’s found her classes and got into orchestra. She hears the trumpets and wishes he would have auditioned. She doesn’t know if he did, but she’s positive that if he did he would be here right now.
And he’s not.
And it’s odd. R is nice and there’s nothing more than the fleeting idea of romance that always seems to enter her brain unannounced. And she knows nothing will come of this, or any other pop of attention she has found herself paying these other boys. It’s hard to tell if it’s true, if it’s reflexes she’s developed, or if it’s him.
She hopes it’s not him.
How terrible would that be, to be hung up on a boy you barely know? She hasn’t reached pining just yet, but the idea of this attention she pays him being more than temporary terrifies her.
